Dragooning the military into fighting global warming
Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a dedicated and somewhat agitated global warming crusader, is determined to have generals and admirals enlisted in his ranks. And he says the Navy is already ahead of the rest when it comes to bowing before global warming's orthodoxy, as the video neaby shows.
We think the good Senator misses the point of national defense, which is to guard against, and fight, enemies to the republic rather than serve as advocates for a political cause (yes, political, because the science surrounding the issue has long come unmoored from the scientific method).
But we are more concerned with the idea the Navy might be evaluating its officers based on "how well they communicate the risk of climate change about the base."
That strikes us as one of the least important criteria for evaluating the performance of a naval base commander. But the practice fits nicely with the beliefs and policies of the Obama administration, which seems to prefer fighting phantoms over engaging the very real people who mean our nation harm.
