The left's ugly verbal assault on Betsy DeVos
We get it: the left is angry that Donald Trump is president. And we also understand they aren't too happy about his cabinet choices, either. That goes double for Betsy DeVos, who has spent her life fighting against the unions, bureaucrats, and politicians who have made American's public education system such a mess.
None of that can remotely be considered an excuse for what happened to DeVos as she was awarded an honorary degree at Bethune-Cookman University:
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos went ahead with her planned commencement speech at Bethune-Cookman University on Wednesday, despite a petition signed by 50,000 rejecting her invitation.
But maybe DeVos should have taken the hint: her speech at the Daytona Beach university was met with a firestorm of brutal heckling deafening boos.
The disastrous commencement was well documented on Twitter, thanks to a number of reporters in attendance.
DeVos wasn't just heckled. She was verbally assaulted by the graduates, who vented their adolescent spleens at Devos:
At one point, the Dean of BCU was forced to intervene, telling the crowd, “If this behavior continues, your degrees will be mailed to you!”
And still their tantrum persisted.
We give enormous credit to DeVos for going into such a hostile environment. That took courage. But it also served another, vital purpose: if the left wants to ensure Donald Trump is re-elected in 2020, keep it up. Heckle, demean, and abuse your hearts out. All you will get in return is more and more Trump.
