A government shutdown lesson
With the partial government shutdown now more than a month old, official Washington increasingly wonder whether and how things will get back to normal. But as we have written before, shutdowns can be instructive, if we remove the hysteria from them.
John Stossel does that in the nearby video. What do we learn? That, contrary to the accepted wisdom in newsrooms and salons across the Acela corridor, "the best of life goes on without government." Further, the private sector can do much of what government does today cheaper, better..and with no threat of shutdown.
