Happy Birthday, William F. Buckley
November 24th is a special day for conservatives -- 89 years ago today, William F. Buckley, Jr. was born in New York City.
Mr. Buckley is rightly considered one of the fathers of modern conservatism. His 1951 book, "God and Man at Yale" launched Buckley in the public consciousness, and with the first issue of National Review in 1955, Buckley brought the conservative argument, ideas and outlooks to a mass audience. American political life was changed forever.
Author, publisher, talk show host, sailor, mayoral candidate, innovator...conservatism would be the force it is today without Mr. Buckely.
He passed away in early 2008, which is a pity. We could have used his biting wit and keen insight in the fight against Obama-ism.
But we remember him today, and celebrate the enormous accomplishments and enduring contributions, he gave us all.
Happy birthday, Mr. Buckely. And thank you.
