The national debt hit an ugly milestone last week, topping $21 trillion for the first time:
The national debt exceeded $21 trillion for the first time on Thursday, a little more than six months after it hit first $20 trillion on Sept. 8.
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case that could decide the fate of public sector labor unions. At issue is whether those unions can force non-members to pay union dues -- dues that are often used for activities (political advocacy among them) the dues payer may find objectionable.
There is much to criticize in the President's budget plan, not the least of which is its freewheeling, trillion dollar deficits. But amidst the fiscal carnage, there are a few worthy nuggets, including the proposal to drastically cut federal subsidies for the arts and humanities.
